Day 37 - Vica Day 2

16 August, 2011

We had a slow start to the day this morning as we were not quite sure what was happening.  We knew that something had been planned but we did not know what. (Communication can be a little difficult at times!)  After a couple of hours we decided to go for a walk.  The village is not that big, so if someone wanted us I'm sure they could find us.
There is one long main road that runs through the village.  As we walked along the road we came to Utca and Layos' house.  We continued past the small church and through to the end of the village.  At the the end of the village there is a small river where the village mill used to sit. We wanted to show the boys the river, because rumor has it that when Paul's dad was small he was taking a cow to the river for a drink one day.  It was hot, so he took his clothes off and went for a swim.  While he was swimming the cow ate his clothing!.  Hmm that might have been a problem!

When we returned to Roszi's house she had lunch waiting for us.  Chicken schnitzel and chicken soup, which was quite nice actually.  Soon after, Edina's brother, Oliver came over to visit us.  Oliver is a truck driver and drives from Hungary to Germany on a weekly basis.  He also speaks reasonable German, so we had a reasonable conversation.  During the course of the discussion, we found out that in his spare time, Oliver collects and restores vintage motorcycles.  He currently has a collection of about 14 motor cycles, dating back to 1937.  Out of the 14, 12 are running.  When he asked us if we wanted to see them, we did not need to be asked twice.  The motor cycles are stored at his mother and fathers house, Utca and Layos, so off we went to see the motorcycles.

After we had taken a few photos of the motor cycles, Oliver asked if we would like to hear them run.  They sounded magnificent.  Next he asked if we would like to go for a ride.  Absolutely!!  The bike chosen was a 1943 BMW with side cart, which was previously used by the German Army (Wehrmacht) during WW2.  The side car even had a machine gun mount (which was missing!)  Oliver drove, Paul sat behind, and Josh and Daniel sat in the side cart.  We had a short drive up and down the village road which was a lot of fun.  Afterwards, we all went with Oliver to the neighbouring village to pick up his truck.  (Josh went with Edina in her "Smart" car).  Oliver then drove the truck back to Utca and Layos' house, (with the Sakovits family all aboard) where he said goodbye to us and went to have a sleep before his trip to Germany in the late evening.

After dinner at Utca and Layos' house, we were called by Roszi to let us know that Victor and his family were waiting to meet us.  Victor is Eva's son, Eva is, Roszi's daugher in law. Victor is married to another Eva, who also speaks German. They have a young daughter Flora, who entertained us for a long time, giving flowers to Josh and Daniel and kissing them.

After Victor and Eva left, Edina invited us across the road to see her house and meet her boyfriend Ferri.  They have a lovely house, and while the boys were inside playing on the computer, we sat outside on the veranda drinking iced tea and perhaps something a little stronger!
